A Room With A View

This is a painting I did, oh, likely 15 years ago. Found it on in the archives of my computer. Sometimes it's good to look back at where you were, and see just how far you've come.
-----------------------------
This is an example of my art before I started warping interiors, but looking back, it's roots started here in paintings like this where the bright colours were already appearing.

Bat in a Tree ~ Papier mache sculpture

I don't know what possessed me to make a bat hanging in a tree, but nevertheless, here it is.
You have to admire bats. Really! Just try hanging upside down for any length of time. It's not that much fun when the blood goes rushing to your head.
But seriously, it's estimated that one bat can eat between 600 to 1000 insects, mosquitoes included, within a period of one hour.... These creatures are welcome to my neck of the woods anytime, especially during mosquito and blackfly season, which has, unfortunately, begun.
Well, getting back to it, I made this bat in a tree out of papier-mache, not really questioning why, as I never do until much later on, and not seriously giving any thought that there would actually be someone out there who'd get it. However someone did, so they bought it, but only after standing in my living room and enjoying a good belly laugh, (the part I enjoyed best), and now it has a very good home! : )

Keep Your "Eye On The Prize"

My two cats are always fodder for paintings.
It seems that they do sleep with one eye open, (both of mine at least!), and tend to know exactly what's going on around them, even if it seems as though they aren't paying any attention, or are seemingly sound asleep, as does the one in this painting!
(Apologies for the less than perfect image. Was scanned from a photograph.)

Edible Art - Jazz & Floral Cookies

When Sabrina Kuratana, owner and founder of "a cake dream" in New Jersey, contacted me about my art, I admit I was intrigued.
--------------------
Sabrina is a passionate cake designer who strives for perfection on everything she undertakes. Having studied at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, Sabrina has mastered the art of baking and presenting an original edible work of art.
-------------------------
Sabrina was interested in using my jazz and floral painting images on her cookies. Well, I thought that was just the best idea ever. Had never heard of anyone else doing this, and still,
I think it's just marvellous that it could actually be done, these edible art creations!
--------------------

The launching of her Signature Line of Art Gallery Cookies features my work, and many other artists as well! This, in Sabrina's words, "has provided the unique opportunity for the sugar and art world to merge", thus promoting me and other artists in a whole new delicious world.
--------------------------
As an artist, and a big fan of cookies, I'm just thrilled to be a part of
"a cake dream"! For more information, please contact Sabrina at:

Conversation piece - House trained Giraffe

Papier-mache is a lot of fun, if you like being messy! Brings out the kid in you, let me tell you!
This giraffe is almost 5 feet tall.
-------------
He needs a good home! Made him last year.... A real conversation piece as you might well imagine. ; )

Abstract Guitars - A "bluesy" feeling

I wasn't quite sure what I was painting here until I stood back and had a good look at it.

Thinking it looks like some abstract guitars.

Music is a muse, after all. Can't remember what I was listening to at the time, (although it was more than likely Steely Dan), or the mood I was in, but was happy with the composition of this one, and the colours, too.

Abstract painting

I really can't explain this painting, so there's likely no point in even trying. Suffice to say that at the time this series of work was being painted, my Mom was dying from cancer. Rather telling now that I look back. However, it was also an experimentation of shapes and colours.

I completed a whole series of these non-representational paintings, and sometime I'd like to go back and revisit them.

To be honest, was afraid to show them to anyone in case people thought I'd lost my mind. ; )

Everyone sees something different, that's for sure.

Family Farm

This is a painting of our family farm, which I painted about 20 years ago. I had given it to my uncle, who owned the farm and of course, lived there. When he passed away, it found it's way back to me.
---------------------------------
The farm has since been sold and torn down, which still to this day breaks my heart, as I miss it and my uncle so very much, but thankfully, I have this portrait and many photographs, along with all the great memories, for which I'm very thankful for.
---------------
The lilac bushes in front were the catalyst for all the paintings of them that I've ever done.
Likely why they are still my favourite of all plants to grow and paint!

Have A Cigar

Have actually had visitors to my studio come right out and tell me that Freud would have had a field day analysing certain imagery included in my paintings...
That really does crack me up, after all, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. ; )

Interior Vignette - A la Martini

A vignette of a "jazz room". Rather like the idea of zooming in on a smaller section of an interior. Adds a bit more in terms of detail.
